Enough is Enough

All good things must come to an end. Knowing that there is some truth to this statement, still doesn't make it any easier when the "good things" actually come to an end. In this case, the "good thing" is Finn sleeping in his crib. Without protest. All night long. The End. Hasta La Vista, baby.

Maybe some of you are thinking "big deal." To me, this is a very big deal. Why? Because sleep is very important to me and because I am not a good sleeper by nature, I do not want Finn following in my footsteps. So I took an immense amount of pride in the fact that since the wee age of 10 weeks old, we have been able to put Finn down in his crib fully awake and he falls asleep on his own, with no fussing. And even better? He sleeps (on average) 12 hours. Of course, there have been hiccups along the way, but for the most part, we have been extremely lucky to have such a good sleeper. I am not telling you this to brag, but simply to illustrate that Finn's sleeping pattern has been like clockwork. That is until Tuesday. Obviously, the shoe had to drop at some point. But why did it have to drop on my head? I knew he would eventually move to a big boy bed, because it would look silly to take a crib to college, right? I thought that we would get to chose when and how Finn transitioned to his new bed.

Clearly, I forgot I was talking about Finn. Who on Tuesday (my birthday) decided at 12:04 am, after he had been in his crib for over 4 hours, that he was not, NO WAY, NO HOW, sleeping in that crib one minute longer. He let me know this first with an ear piercing shriek. After four trips to his room over a couple of hours, he had had enough. That's when I heard a thump, the door open and Finn comes waltzing into my room at about 1:30 am. Did I forget to mention that Mark was out of town? I asked Finn why he didn't want to sleep in his bed anymore and he said, "the vacuum." Obviously.

The next day I tried to revisit the crib but Finn assured me, visiting hours were OVER. The only other option was the floor. Which is where, over a week later, he still sleeps. We converted his crib into the toddler bed configuration, but he was all, "didn't I make myself clear?" No way.

So here is Finn's new sleeping arrangement. A mattress on the floor in the corner with a patio chair cushion as a head board. Next, I'll post a picture of the perfectly good toddler bed where Finn currently stores his toys. You have not heard the end of this one. Round 1: Finn.
