Days 7-9: Las Vegas

We drove from Los Angeles to Las Vegas and it took us around 5 hours. It was a pretty easy trip, with lots of beautiful scenery to see. I was amazed at the Nevada landscape--it really is desert country with nothing around for hundreds of miles and them up pops Las Vegas seemingly out of nowhere. The main reason for going to Vegas was to see the Grand Canyon. We decided against seeing a show because they were so late and we were so tired already. So, we took it easy during the rest of our stay with a little shopping, a gondola ride through the Venetian and a quick pirate show at Treasure Island. I have to be honest and say it was a little disconcerting maneuvering Finn through all of the different casinos--through the cigarette smoke and scantily clad women! Geez, he didn't seem to notice but I sure did. Thankfully he is only 5 and still naive and sheltered. It also made me realize that I don't want him to go to Vegas by himself until he's at least 30.

He liked walking over all of the skybridges because he didn't have to stop for cars
(he just didn't like me taking his picture)

It was a little cool to be swimming in my opinion--but not Finn's!
He spent an entire afternoon swimming away.

Taking a gondola ride. Our little gondolier serenaded us in Italian and at one point Finn says, "hey, I know this song!" Turns out he did. It was from the "spaghetti and meatball" scene in Lady and the Tramp. Check out his stickers too.
